Join us for a relaxing walk through the city centre of Christchurch for a 'Passeggiata di Primavera'. A great opportunity to speak Italian while discovering the meaning of the beautiful artworks within the new Ōtautahi rebuild.
The walk, of approximately 40 minutes, will start at the Margaret Mahy Playground (we will meet at 10.30am at the playground carpark on Armagh Street) and will finish at Tre Fratelli Fried Pizza at 7/160 Lichfield Street.

Italian Film Festival
25th November to 8th December, Lumière Cinemas
This year’s Cinema Italiano 2021 (due to start the day after lockdown) has now been shifted to 24th November to 8th December with the same lineup and screenings as per the brochure (along with a few additional ‘due to demand’ opportunities thrown in).
Those lucky ticket holders will be able to swap these over to the new dates and the Lumière will be in touch after 15th September once the new schedule goes live on their website. Likewise, for those who bought through their booking office, just take in your purchased tickets and they will sort it out for you with a free cuppa-tea while they are at it!
Christchurch Heritage Festival

The Italian society is participating once again to this wonderful festival organised by the city council with a morning dedicated to children who share an Italian heritage.
A session for children and their families to share in traditional stories and songs from Italy.
The Dante Alighieri Italian Society wants to bring together Cantabrians of Italian descent and the many people interested in Italian language and culture, to celebrate and pass on Italian story tales and folk songs to children.
This event is aimed at passing on one of our most important taonga, our Italian language, to our children.
Many of us remember the stories and songs our parents and grandparents taught us in Italy and we want to make sure children born in New Zealand are able to learn these too.
Many Italians of different generations will actively participate in this event, including teenagers who will be narrating some of the stories, and parents and children using props and homemade instruments to create sound effects.
As you know, the Dante Alighieri Society of Auckland has become an official examination centre – the only one in New Zealand – for PLIDA (Progetto Lingua Italiana Dante Alighieri – Dante Alighieri Italian Language Project) exams, that certifies competence in Italian as a foreign language. The first exams took place in June, and the second – and last – session of 2021 is going to be held from Monday, 22nd November.
This session is exclusively for “Plida B1 CITTADINANZA (citizenship)”: it will involve only the speaking module (parlare) and it can only be used to support the application for Italian citizenship. Please note “Plida B1 CITTADINANZA” is not equivalent to a full Plida certification: it will be only issued in this particular time, affected by the global pandemic, to apply for Italian citizenship. If you need it to apply to Italian universities, for jobs, or as an official language certificate, you need to apply to the standard PLIDA exam. Dante Auckland is not organizing any other session in 2021.

Il CEC si occupa, fra l'altro, della verifica delle liste e della organizzazione del seggio elettorale.

Italian classes
The Dante students have successfully joined the classes on Zoom for the last few weeks.
We will have a mid-term break and all classes will resume in October at Kohinga St Albans Community centre - except for Francesca's students, back to Riccarton.
