A Request for Native Speakers of Italian

My name is Alessandra Rosetti and I am a postdoctural researcher at Dublin City University (Ireland). We are looking for native speakers of Italian (18+ years) who live in English speaking countries to take part in a short (about 15min) anonymous online survey. Our goal is to understand their comprehension of and trust in (translated) messages aimed at preparing the public for a crisis such as flooding. The survey is entirely in Italian. To take part, please click here.

Un messaggio per gli studenti della Dante

Cari studenti delle classi di italiano,

In joining the Dante Alighieri Committee a few months ago, I wanted to find out if students of the Dante scuola favoured an informal student association. We each attend lessons and come to know our classmates, without seeing most of the other people who make up the school roll.
  • Do you see benefit in building on your learning by meeting or networking with others between lessons?
  • Would you find having a Facebook page for Dante students useful? (e.g. ask if someone can clarify a piece of grammar, post an item related to Italy and the language)
  • On the social side, would you like there to be student get-togethers? This could be a chance to meet others at the same level as yourself, try to speak a phrase or two in Italian.

Two examples:
  1. Students in my Intermediate 1 class with Wilma have shared emails, and I think this is useful and could see us begin to network and build study focused relationships.
  2. Maria has students who meet informally to go over the learning from class.

There are plenty of things that could be done, but if you’re interested, what would YOU like?
Please contact me, I’d love to hear your ideas.

Serenading Stefano

The Opera Foundation and Dame Malvina Major Foundation Christchurch Committee are joining together to host a fundraiser for Anna Leese Guidi and her husband Stefano.
Stefano, a passionate Italian wine maker, met Anna whilst she was singing in Italy and moved to New Zealand to make a new life with her.  They married and last year just before the birth of their first child Matteo, Stefano was diagnosed with the most aggressive form of Motor Neurone Disease. Already he is facing many frightening challenges which require great emotional, physical and financial support.  Anna has had to withdraw from singing 'Katya Kabanova' for NZ Opera later this year.
Philip Norman will be our MC and the Christchurch City Choir and The Opera Club will perform alongside many solo artists.
Please join us and support Anna and Stefano.

With best wishes,
Peter Squires, Chairperson

Cari amici,
Sandra e Maria Fresia are pleased to offer two Italian tours in 2017:
 - 10 days (10 nights) in Terracina
 - 12 days (12 nights) in Liguria

1) Terracina Study Tour, 28 August - 7 September 2017
     Max 14 participants.
10 days especially designed for people (with prior knowledge of Italian) who want to further improve the language. Formal lessons every day, along with outings e passeggiate in un’atmosfera familiare. The hotel is in the centre of Terracina, therefore there will be many opportunities to meet locals and practice the language in daily Italian life.

2) Liguria Tour, 13 - 25 September 2017
     Max 14 participants.
12 days touring the Liguria region. For anyone who is interested in exploring this wonderful area- students, partners of students, and friends are very welcome as no knowledge of the Italian language is necessary.

If you would like to know more, please email  Maria Fresia.
